Mark is an effective teacher because he has a student’s mind. Learning is a priority for him. Over the course of his 20+ year career, he earned many certifications including CHEK Practitioner Level II, ELDOA Certified Trainer, and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P).
His journey into the wellness world began in 1995 when Mark first decided to pursue a career in fitness. He moved to Texas for the weather and earned his B.S. in Exercise & Sports Science from Texas State University.
Mark met his wife, Wendy, in college. They live in Austin, Texas with their two children, Mason and Kendra. At the age of 7, when Kendra was diagnosed with “S” curve scoliosis, Mark put ELDOA to the test. If left untreated, scoliosis could permanently alter the structural integrity of her spine.
Mark placed Kendra on an ELDOA routine in hopes of reversing her scoliosis. She performed five ELDOA poses daily, five days per week. Kendra did each ELDOA for 60 seconds, spending a total of five minutes per day. Within six months, Kendra’s double scoliosis was gone. She continues to practice the L5/S1 ELDOA for 60 seconds each day as her maintenance program.
Finally, Mark found something that worked better for him than anything before.
His education in all-things-health began twenty years prior. Mark traveled around the country earning certifications, including advanced training from the CHEK Institute. From this coursework, Mark met a colleague who introduced him to Dr. Guy Voyer, a world-renowned French M.D. and Doctor of Osteopathy.
Dr. Voyer created the ELDOA method, celebrated for the active postures that create space in a targeted spinal segment or specific joint in the body. There are different ELDOA poses for each individual disc in the spine. When Mark did ELDOA himself for the first time, the experience ignited his curiosity and made him feel better immediately.
Mark’s mobility was limited, like many of his clients. Ten years into personal training, Mark noticed that the same thing was holding them back: pain and structural imbalances. Could this be the solution he needed to help his clients get out of pain and achieve their goals?
Compelled to find out, Mark spent the next nearly ten years learning from Dr. Voyer. During this time, he earned his Diploma in SomaTraining, learning to teach myofascial stretching, analytical strength training, proprioception and awareness techniques, global postural stretching, and other healing modalities. Currently, Mark is working towards his Diploma in SomaTherapy.
At Mark’s studio, Balanced Bodies, Mark shows his clients how to correct their own pain and imbalances. He coaches his students to engage in exercises that remove obstacles to their physical goals, as taught by Dr. Voyer.
“You are your own best therapist.”
